Awakening Hit With Release Date Delay

Summary

  • The release of Dune: Awakening on PC has been delayed to June 10.
  • An additional beta is planned to take place before the full release in June.
  • The console release date for Dune: Awakening remains unknown due to issues with Xbox Series S.

Norwegian developer Funcom has confirmed that the PC version of Dune: Awakening has been delayed to June 10, 2025. Since its public reveal almost three years ago, Dune: Awakening has been a highly anticipated entry into Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi series.

Set in an alternative timeline to the books, Dune: Awakening is a multiplayer survival game where players explore the desert world of Arrakis to uncover the mystery of the Fremen’s disappearance. Gamers can align with either House Atreides or House Harkonnen, who are locked in a bitter war for the planet and its resources. Funcom previously confirmed a release date of May 2025. However, thanks to player feedback, there will be a small delay before players can jump into the Dune universe.

In the latest update from the developer on Steam, Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will be released on June 10. The original release was May 20, meaning this is a delay of three weeks. The team in Oslo has stated that the time will be taken to fine-tune the PC version and that “improvements that will lead to a better gameplay experience from day one” will be implemented. The exact details of these improvements haven’t been disclosed, but the developers confirmed that the information collected in the ongoing closed beta was behind the decision to delay the game.

Dune: Awakening Suffers a Short Delay

  • New release date: June 10, 2025

The news of the delay comes as a blow to gamers eager to begin their journey in Arrakis, but Funcom also confirmed that an additional beta will take place in the coming month. Although no date has been set for the beta, players can get a head start with Dune: Awakening’s character creation tool ahead of the game’s full release in June.

The delay will only affect players looking to play on PC, as the console version of Dune: Awakening is currently waiting for a release date. Funcom previously made the decision to prioritize the PC version of Dune: Awakening due to issues with the Xbox Series S. The developers recently went on the record to say that porting the MMO to consoles was a challenge due to the lower-spec Xbox console.

While the three-week delay is disappointing to some, the Norwegian developers confirmed that Dune: Awakening will be skipping early access altogether, opting for a full release of the game. Unlike other MMOs, Funcom’s latest game won’t rely on monthly subscriptions. Instead, Dune: Awakening will feature future paid and free DLC packs.
