  • The remaster includes enhanced visuals, gameplay upgrades, new weapons and maps, and two new game modes: Horde Assault and Speedrun Mode.

Days Gone Remastered has teased major upgrades coming with the PS5 edition. Nearly six years have passed since the game’s original PS4 release, followed by a PC port in 2021. Now, developer Bend Studio seems confident that Days Gone Remastered can elevate the experience further, thanks to Sony’s latest technologies.

Days Gone Remastered was officially announced during the February 2025 PlayStation State of Play event, with a release date set for April 25. Around the same time, there were reports that Sony had rejected the idea of a sequel, which many found disappointing. Still, the remaster’s reveal was met with a positive response from the community. One clear sign of fan enthusiasm was the strong start to Days Gone Remastered’s pre-orders.

Days Gone Remastered Reveals New Trophies

Days Gone Remastered lists the trophies it is preparing to add over the original’s count, giving both new and returning players an exciting update.

In an interview with the PlayStation Blog, Kevin McAllister, creative and product lead at Bend Studio, reassured fans that the improvements in Days Gone Remastered will be noticeable. While outlining the visual upgrades, he mentioned increased lighting, improved shadow quality, enhanced fog depth, and, most notably, larger hordes. McAllister also revealed details about Days Gone Remastered’s new game mode, Horde Assault, teasing that it will feature significantly larger groups of Freakers, with some hordes exceeding 800 enemies.

Days Gone Remastered’s Improvements Will Be Evident

Speaking about the PS5 version’s visual upgrades, McAllister noted that Days Gone was already a realistic game, but he believes the team has pushed that realism even further with the power of Sony’s current-gen console. Still, the remaster isn’t just about improved visuals. As Bend Studio’s creative and product lead pointed out, it also brings meaningful gameplay enhancements. Fans were thrilled to learn that Days Gone Remastered includes ten hours of news content, along with a variety of new weapons and maps, reinforcing McAllister’s claims about the scope of the upgrade.

Fortunately for fans, Horde Assault isn’t the only new mode coming in Bend Studio’s upcoming remaster. Hardcore players will also be able to take on a dedicated Speedrun Mode, which tracks playthrough time while automatically excluding cinematics. It is also worth noting that while many of these additions are designed to take advantage of the PS5’s power, they’ll also enhance the experience on PC. Currently, Days Gone’s Broken Road DLC can be wishlisted on Steam, and it’s set to bring select features from the remastered version to the base game. For those curious, both the PS5 remastered edition and the PC DLC will launch on April 25, 2025.
