Switch Online Expansion Pack Confirms Another Perk for Switch 2 Gamers

Nintendo has confirmed an additional benefit for those that are signed up for the Expansion Pack tier of Nintendo Switch Online: access to the Switch 2 Edition upgrades for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo Switch Online is Nintendo’s equivalent of PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass. By signing up for the service, subscribers are able to play Switch games online along with a variety of retro titles from older consoles.

Currently, there are two tiers of Nintendo Switch Online available. For $19.99 per year, subscribers get access to the base tier of the service, which includes online multiplayer support and titles from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, and some other libraries. Those willing to pay $49.99 per year for the Expansion Pack tier get everything that comes with the base version of Switch Online plus Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis games and free DLC for various Switch games. When the Nintendo Switch 2 comes out, those signed up for the Switch Online Expansion Pack tier will get even more bang for their buck.

Nintendo Making Changes to Switch Online App

Nintendo confirms that it is making some changes to the Nintendo Switch Online app in the months ahead.

Switch Online’s Expansion Pack on the Switch 2 will get players access to GameCube games, with three available at launch: Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur 2. Being able to play GameCube games is awesome, but Switch 2 gamers can look forward to even more benefits through the service. Nintendo has confirmed that those signed up for the Expansion Pack tier of Switch Online will also be able to enjoy the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition upgrades at no additional charge.

For the uninitiated, Nintendo is re-releasing some Switch 1 games as Switch 2 Edition games that come with various enhancements and, in some cases, new content. With the Switch 2 Edition versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, gamers can look forward to significantly improved performance, which should make the games much smoother to play.

Improved performance isn’t the only benefit to playing the Switch 2 Edition versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Those that download the Nintendo Switch app will also be able to utilize the Zelda Notes feature for help with the games. Zelda Notes also comes with achievements for players to unlock, which could be a good excuse for fans to revisit Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch 2.
