Potential Atomfall Sequel Discussed by Rebellion CEO

Summary
- Rebellion Developments hints at potential Atomfall sequels due to game’s success and the company’s strategy.
- Atomfall, a survival RPG, exceeded 2 million players within two weeks of launch, showing promise for additional content.
- Rebellion CEO praises the Xbox Game Pass partnership for boosting Atomfall’s success, hinting at potential sequel development.
Atomfall may have the potential for a sequel, or maybe even more, if the development team at Rebellion Developments can muster the resources to make it happen. The launch of Atomfall marked the first new IP for the England-based studio in more than six years, but CEO Jason Kingsley indicates that he’s not afraid to take some risks, and giving players more Atomfall content is one of his priorities.
Rebellion released Atomfall in March, weaving a World War 2-era sci-fi tale of martial law and the fear of nuclear annihilation. Although the developers drew inspiration from some of the elements established by Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas, they did so in a lush, green Northern England environment with a mysterious story all its own.

‘It’s Been a Huge Success’ Rebellion CEO Praises Atomfall Release on Xbox Game Pass
The CEO of Rebellion Developments comments on the success of Atomfall, attributing much of this to the Xbox Game Pass service.
That distinction seemed disappointing to some fans who were hoping for a simple British Fallout, but Kingsley embraced the risk of Rebellion doing something different, and now that the game is out, he seems eager to add more to the new IP. “The idea has always been to have two thirds sequels, and one third new IP, pushing the boundaries,” he told GamesIndustry.biz in a recent interview. That strategy applies to Rebellion’s entire catalog of games, but he made a particular note that Atomfall has been added to the list of games that deserve additional content, which also includes Sniper Elite, Zombie Army, and Strange Brigade. Of those three other IPs, only Strange Brigade is a standalone title at this point, and with Atomfall being a big hit right out of the gate, the potential for sequels seems even more likely.
Rebellion CEO Hints That Atomfall Sequels Are Planned
One point that Kinsgley made clear is that Rebellion is a budget-conscious developer, and he stated that every single one of its games has turned a profit for the company. That sounds like good news for its newest IP and its potential to turn out sequels, but not entirely surprising. About a week ago, Rebellion revealed through social media that Atomfall‘s player count had surpassed 2 million players worldwide in just a little over two weeks following its March 27 launch.
The survival RPG’s success has been bolstered by the inclusion of Atomfall as a day-one Game Pass game. Kingsley called Microsoft a “fantastic partner,” saying that both companies have benefited from the Game Pass deal, and he is hopeful that word of mouth from players who discovered the game on the subscription service will nudge players who are not subscribers to buy it.
