Oblivion Remastered Adds Incredible Nod to Skyrim

Summary
- The Throat of the World from Skyrim can be seen in Oblivion Remastered, delighting fans across both games.
- The remastered version of Oblivion adds upgrades such as new graphics, AI, weapons, and armor sets.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered features one familiar sight that even fans who have only played Skyrim will be able to recognize, as the Throat of the World can be seen in the distance on its far northern horizon. While the action in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is contained within the central province of Cyrodiil, this little Easter egg pays homage to the home of the Greybeards of the northern province.
Released on April 22, the remastered version of Bethesda’s classic 2006 action RPG adds a lot of upgrades, including a full graphical overhaul, upgraded AI, new weapons and armor sets, and more. Like the game it’s based on, Oblivion Remastered is an instant hit, appearing atop Steam’s top-seller list and achieving a peak player count in excess of 181,000 on its launch date, which doesn’t even account for players on PlayStaition 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Publisher of Clair Obscur Refers to Oblivion Remastered Releasing in the Same Week to “Barbenheimer”
Kepler Interactive took to social media after Bethesda Game Studios’ shadow drop of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. They compared the release of their upcoming game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and the Oblivion remaster to the “barbenheimer” phenomenon that occured in 2023.
With its instant popularity, a lot of fans of the Elder Scrolls franchise may be pleased to hear that one of Skyrim’s most beautiful locations can be viewed from within the confines of the new game’s world, albeit at a distance. Multiple players journeying across Cyrodiil’s rocky northern expanse have reported sightings of the Throat of the World, the massive mountain southeast of Whiterun where the Dragonborn first learns to harness the power of the Thuum. The Throat of the World is truly enormous and can serve as a visual landmark across much of Skyrim‘s map, so while it makes sense that it could also be seen from the area around Bruma, it’s also proving to be a visual treat for fans.
Oblivion Remastered Lets Players See Part of Skyrim
While its appearance makes logical sense, some fans see the massive mountain’s inclusion as a throwback to another horizon-based Easter egg in Skyrim. While climbing the Throat of the World in that game, players looking to the south may have caught a glimpse of the White-Gold Tower from Oblivion. This Aldmeri structure stands at the center of the Imperial City’s Palace District and plays a similar role to the mountain, serving as a repository of knowledge for the Moth Priests. Also, much like the Throat of the World, it can be seen from quite a distance in Oblivion.
It is possible to travel to Cyrodiil in Skyrim by use of console commands or mods, though players will find that there’s not much there, as the province was never intended to be a playable part of the game outside a couple of contained quests. With that in mind, it’s probably only a matter of time until some enterprising players show what happens when clipping across the northern border to get a closer look at Oblivion Remastered‘s Throat of the World.
