Following the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct broadcast on April 2, Nintendo stated that pre-orders for its highly anticipated console would begin on April 9 via various retailers, including Walmart, Best Buy, and GameStop. Shortly after, Nintendo delayed Switch 2 pre-orders in the US due to the Trump administration’s tariffs on goods from nations like China and Vietnam. Nintendo subsequently delayed pre-orders in Canada to line up with when US pre-orders would begin. Despite taking pre-orders across other parts of the world, Nintendo has not officially shared when Switch 2 pre-orders will start in North America.

Nintendo gives gamers the first official glimpse of how the Switch Online App will look on the Switch 2 compared to the original Switch.

While leaks and rumors must be taken with a grain of salt, a known industry investigator claimed that Switch 2 pre-orders in Canada and the US could start soon. According to DeaLabs’ Billbil-Kun on Twitter, some Canadian retailers have listed that the Switch 2 base console and Mario Kart World bundle may be available for pre-order starting on Wednesday, April 23. Given that Nintendo delayed Canada’s pre-orders to match the US, it is plausible that the April 23 date for Canada could apply to US retailers.

Billbil-kun later posted that they found conflicting information about the Switch 2 hardware and accessory pre-order window. Billbil-kun claimed that the Switch 2 console packages could be pre-ordered in the US starting on April 23 or 30, depending on the retailer. April 30 was also listed as a potential pre-order date for accessories like the Switch 2 Pro Controller.

The April 30 date was corroborated by Wario64 on Twitter, who stated that Target’s wishlist backend data had it listed as a potential date. However, Wario64 stated that since April 30 is the last day of the month, the date could just be a placeholder instead of an actual pre-order window. As of this writing, the only way Nintendo fans in the US and Canada can potentially get a pre-order for the Switch 2 is via the My Nintendo Store email list. Emails will start going out on May 8 to eligible Switch users on a first-come, first-serve basis.

While price information for the Switch 2 remains uncertain due to the Trump tariffs, the console is still expected to sell well. Hopefully, Nintendo of America will officially confirm Switch 2 pre-order information in the days ahead.
