Polish developer 11 Bit Studios plans to release another Frostpunk game in 2027 and has another project in store for 2029. Things haven’t been easy for the studio lately, despite the success of its now-iconic steampunk post-apocalyptic city-builder, but the company’s leadership has expressed optimism about the coming years. It seems 11 Bit Studios has big plans for the near future, including some notable game releases.

11 Bit already has a full slate ahead of it for the remainder of the year. After several delays, Frostpunk 2′s console release is now coming in Summer 2025, with a major content update planned for May 8 and the release of the Spectrum DLC coming in the Fall. There are also two more DLCs for the game: one slated for a late 2025 release and the other coming sometime in 2026. That’s a lot of content to work on for the indie studio, but it only scratches the surface of its longer-term plans.

How Does Frostpunk 2 Compare To The Original?

Frostpunk 2’s shift to a much larger scale made me feel as if I was disconnected with the citizens in my cities. The game itself isn’t bad, but comparing it to the first game, the doom and gloom here is a lot less palpable.

In a release reported by the Polish Press Agency (and spotted by Gamepressure), 11 Bit Studios’ president, Przemysław Marszał, announced plans to release another game in the Frostpunk universe in 2027. He did not clarify whether it would be a direct sequel or something more akin to a spin-off, but did confirm that development is already underway. Marszał also said the decision is part of a broader strategy to balance creating a more diverse range of games with capitalizing on shorter-term profitable opportunities, all to weather a changing gaming market. Considering how Frostpunk 2 sold enough to cover all its production costs in just four days, it’s easy to see why a third would stand out as a way to earn some relatively quick cash.

A New Frostpunk Game Could Release in 2027, with a Bigger Release Coming in 2029

In addition to a new Frostpunk title, 11 Bit Studios is working on a larger game, scheduled to come out in 2029. Marszał did not state if this would be a new IP or something related to one of the studio’s previous works, but the former seems likely, given the lack of details around it for now. This unnamed project is not the only non-Frostpunk title 11 But Studios has in the works, as The Alters will get a day one Xbox Game Pass release on June 13, 2025, and Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is eyeing a Summer 2025 release, too.

This slew of announcements comes on the heels of some troubled times for the studio. In late 2024, 11 Bit Studios laid off staff and canceled an unannounced game codenamed “Project 8.” In this new press release, Marszał confirmed that the company’s financial results for 2024 fell below expectations, but he also expressed confidence that 2025 will be a different story.
