CI Games has released the major Version 2.0 update for Lords of the Fallen, adding a free Friend’s Pass, shared progression cross-play co-op, an overhauled character creator, and much more. Since its release in late 2023, Lords of the Fallen has received over 50 updates, with the developers eager to continue adding polish to the popular action game.
Despite CI Games being hit with layoffs in the middle of 2024, Lords of the Fallen has continued to thrive, with the developers releasing a steady stream of updates and fresh content for players to enjoy. The notoriously difficult soulslike is a successor to the 2014 title of the same name, and upon its release in 2023, it managed to sell over one million copies in its first ten days. Despite some reviews being less than enthusiastic at the start, a steady stream of fixes and updates has improved the game’s overall feedback, and the newest patch is bringing with it tons of new mechanics and player-requested features.

Rumors of the Lords of the Fallen Version 2.0 patch coming in April have turned out to be true, with the update now live. The largest additions include shared progression cross-play co-op, a dedicated jump button, an overhauled character creator, modernized UI, and improved tutorials for new players. A new free Friend’s Pass will allow one player who owns the game to enjoy online co-op with another player who does not own the game, and smoother combat animations and improved weapon response make Lords of the Fallen feel even more refined. While the update is now live for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users, as well as those using Epic Games Store and Windows Store, the 2.0 update has been temporarily delayed on Steam due to a technical issue. It is unclear when this will be resolved.
Version 2.0 is just the newest in a long line of updates for the action game, with Lords of the Fallen‘s February patch adding more dynamic HUD options, something many players had requested. The update also added the ability for players to summon NPC helpers from the start of the game, rather than only being able to do so after one death. The developers welcome player feedback, and the community has been pleased with how quickly certain bugs and issues are addressed by the team.
CI Games is currently hard at work on a Lords of the Fallen sequel, which is currently slated to release in 2026. In a recently published roadmap from the developer, it was confirmed that full production is underway and the sequel will feature higher production values and a more “commercial art style and narrative.”
