As of April 17, 2025, it has officially been 500 days since the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was released. Developer Rockstar Games has remained silent on the highly anticipated release since the first and currently only trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was uploaded to YouTube on December 4, 2023.

While Grand Theft Auto fans patiently wait for more news or information surrounding the series’ next instalment, GTA 5 still appears to be going strong. Despite initially launching for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 remains one of the most popular titles in gaming over a decade later, largely thanks to multiple re-releases. Developer and publisher Rockstar Games recently launched an enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5 for PC, featuring numerous technical improvements, including ray tracing, support for AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS, faster loading times, enhanced support for higher resolutions and aspect ratios, and more.

April 17 Marks 500 Days Since GTA 6’s First Trailer

Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to break records over a decade since its release, but there are plenty of fans who are tired of the title and are eager to see more from the series’ next instalment, Grand Theft Auto 6. Sadly, it has now officially been 500 days since the game’s first trailer, which is the only piece of media fans have for the upcoming title. After releasing the first trailer on December 4, 2023, Rockstar Games has not provided fans with any screenshots, news, details, or, most importantly, a second trailer. Fans continue to speculate about when the studio will provide more information on the title, but currently, there is no indication of how many more days it will be until a second trailer is released.

It may have been 500 days since the first trailer was released, but it could still be another few months until marketing for Grand Theft Auto 6 finally kicks off. During a recent interview, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the anticipation for Rockstar Games’ upcoming title and the constant secrecy. Zelnick explained that the anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 is the greatest he’s ever seen for an entertainment property. Due to the unprecedented levels of hype, Zelnick said the company wants to “maintain the anticipation and excitement.” The CEO then explained that Take-Two has found the best approach is to “provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window,” which suggests that more details on Grand Theft Auto 6 may not be revealed until closer to the Fall.

With a Fall 2025 release window constantly being reaffirmed by Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, Grand Theft Auto 6 could be in the hands of gamers in just five to eight months. The studio has yet to set a firm release date outside of Fall 2025, but fans do believe they’ve narrowed down Grand Theft Auto 6‘s release date with a little help from Borderlands 4. Although different studios develop both titles, Rockstar Games and Gearbox Software are both owned by Take-Two Interactive. As Borderlands 4 is officially launching on September 23, many believe this rules out the month for a Grand Theft Auto 6 release.
