Even More Schedule 1 Mods Found to Contain Malware

Summary

  • More Schedule 1 mods have been discovered to contain dangerous malware.
  • Malware was found in mods like “Just Enough Drugs” and “BetterCasino,” leading to warnings and the need for vigilance.
  • The discovery of malware in mods may impact the long-term health of the Schedule 1 modding community.

Even more Schedule 1 mods have been found to contain dangerous malware, with players now being encouraged to stay vigilant whenever downloading user-made content for the game. This latest development could cause harm to the Schedule 1 modding community long-term, which hopefully won’t be the case.

The Schedule 1 modding community has already proven to be a huge positive for the game, making solid improvements to the Early Access title as developer TVGS continues to work on the base game. However, malware was recently found in some popular Schedule 1 mods, leaving some players vulnerable to malicious files. This kind of issue doesn’t pop up too often in PC gaming, so it’s surprising when it does. After those initial malware-infected mods were discovered, it seems there are now more that players should be aware of.

More PSAs on the Schedule 1 subreddit have confirmed that two more mods for the game have been found to contain dangerous malware and should be avoided altogether. The first is the “Just Enough Drugs” mod, which was previously available on Nexus Mods but has since been removed. According to the PSA, version 1.3.0 of this same Schedule 1 mod on Thunderstore is safe, but this may not be the case for future updates, given what happened to it on Nexus Mods.

Here Are Some More Schedule 1 Mods to Avoid

The second mod to be avoided is “BetterCasino,” which can be found on Thunderstore. The PSA for this mod claimed that it “implements an unknown thing that executes and runs commands,” advising players to be careful when downloading and installing Schedule 1 mods from unknown sources. If any player has downloaded these mods, they should remove all malicious files using a reputable anti-virus program and delete all files associated with these mods. Then, for safety’s sake, passwords should be changed.

With several high-profile mods now containing malware, it would be a shame if this caused issues for the long-term health of the Schedule 1 modding community. Naturally, if more things like this continue to happen, players will only become more cautious about downloading Schedule 1 mods in the future. Instead, some will cease to install them altogether, and instead just wait for the next Schedule 1 update from TVGS.
