Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remaster Reveal Seems Imminent
The Elder Scrolls fans discover clues on the Bethesda website that hint an official reveal of Oblivion Remastered and its release date are close.
Meanwhile, another rumor comes courtesy of the Defining Duke podcast, during which co-host Barry “Lord Cognito” Eversly said that whenever it releases, the Oblivion remaster could launch with “all the DLCs included.” The comment suggested that an Oblivion remaster would include the game’s Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions, as well as Oblivion DLC packs like the notorious Horse Armor Pack.
Oblivion Remaster Could Include All Previously Released DLC Packs
Lord Cognito wasn’t specific about his source for the comment about the included DLC, but said it was a “very good authority” that confirmed the information. That suggests it could be an insider with close knowledge of Bethesda and Microsoft’s plans. If true, knowing that The Shivering Isles, one of the best open-world DLC expansions ever made, is included in the package could improve the value proposition of an Oblivion remaster.
That being said, it’s not unusual for game rereleases to include previously optional content. Even the Game of the Year Deluxe edition of Oblivion itself included all 10 DLC packs. Additionally, fan-made projects like the Skyrim-based Oblivion remake Skyblivion will include select DLC items like the Horse Armor and Spell Tomes, though in Skyblivion‘s case, the larger expansions will be added after the base project itself is completed and released.
Whenever Microsoft and Bethesda opt to confirm the Oblivion remaster, it seems sensible to include as much of the original game’s content as possible, which is better to entice fans to double-dip and attract newcomers. Many of Oblivion‘s DLC add-ons are as beloved as anything in the base game itself, and the Shivering Isles in particular shine a light on some of the Elder Scrolls setting’s most interesting personalities and sights. The thought of having to pay extra to see those DLCs again in an Oblivion remaster’s improved graphical splendor would no doubt sting.
