Diablo 4 Season 8 Will Nerf ‘Overpowered’ Builds

Summary
- Diablo 4’s Season 8 will bring nerfs to overpowered builds.
- Developers will actively nerf strong builds early in Season 8.
Blizzard has recently revealed that Diablo 4’s Season 8 will bring nerfs to some of the game’s most overpowered builds. The developers of Diablo 4 are constantly trying to find the perfect balance between allowing powerful builds without ruining the game’s difficulty, and it seems that the next season in the live service game will have nerfs sooner rather than later.
Originally released in 2023, Diablo 4 is about to enter Season 8, titled Belial’s Return, which will start on April 29. A few days ago, Blizzard revealed that Diablo 4 will have a developer update livestream on April 24, which will clarify more details about the upcoming season. Even before the livestream, however, Blizzard has been sharing some important details about the changes ahead.

Diablo 4’s roadmap for the coming year has been met with mixed reactions, but there could still be one source of exciting content for the game.
Now, Gamesradar has reported that Diablo 4’s lead live game designer, Colin Finer, has revealed more about how Season 8 will balance characters. “We absolutely want powerful builds, but I think it’s finding that sweet spot. We think the Blood Wave fell into a category that was too powerful,” the developer said in a roundtable interview, citing the greatly overpowered Necromancer build in Diablo 4. Finer explained that the developers don’t want the entire experience to become trivial with a single Unique item, so in Season 8, the team will change the balancing philosophy quite a bit. One of the main reasons for taking this stance is that waiting until mid-season to nerf overpowered builds is a “big disrespect to the players’ time.” To avoid that, the designers will actively nerf the most overpowered builds as soon as “the first week or so.”
Nerfs Are Coming in Diablo 4 Season 8
We absolutely want powerful builds, but I think it’s finding that sweet spot. We think the Blood Wave fell into a category that was too powerful.
This was not the first time that the designers of Diablo 4 have indicated that the game is possibly too easy. Back in March, for example, Blizzard said that gamers were reaching the maximum level too quickly in Diablo 4 Season 7, and indicated that Season 8 would focus on being more difficult than the previous ones.
According to Blizzard’s Diablo 4 roadmap for 2025, the next season will last from April to July, with two more seasons being released later in the year. Season 8 will have permanent additions such as new Lair bosses like Belial, Urivar, and Harbinger, and unique seasonal content, including boss powers, a new feline pet, a collab with Berserk, and more. Hopefully, Blizzard will not nerf Diablo 4 too hard, and the popular action RPG will continue to be popular throughout the year.
