Dark Souls Finally Has Seamless Co-op Thanks to Mod

  • Yui’s much-anticipated Dark Souls Remastered mod is now available.
  • Over 10,000 fans downloaded the add-on within 72 hours of its release.

Dark Souls Remastered now supports seamless co-op, courtesy of a newly released mod. Thousands of players flocked back to Dark Souls Remastered within days of the mod’s arrival.

The new add-on comes from Yui, a prominent modder with over a dozen popular projects to their name. Yui had a busy start to this year, adding seamless co-op multiplayer to Dark Souls 3 in February 2025 before moving on to work on an equivalent mod for Dark Souls Remastered.

A growing family of mods across FromSoftware’s Soulslike catalog indicates that their common feature needs to be officially added to future games.

These efforts have now resulted in the first public release of Yui’s Dark Souls Remastered seamless co-op mod, which was uploaded to Nexus Mods on April 10. The add-on amassed 12,150 downloads from over 10,000 users within the first 72 hours, suggesting many FromSoftware fans decided to revisit the game now that seamless co-op is on the cards.

While other people have always been able to help with Dark Souls Remastered bosses, the ability to have multiplayer parties persist through player deaths should make tackling the game’s most difficult challenges much more convenient. It also allows for new exploration experiences, since parties are no longer limited by area and won’t get disbanded after a boss is felled, nor can they only be assembled ahead of a big fight. In other words, Yui’s newly released mod makes Dark Souls Remastered playable from start to finish in just one multiplayer session.

To account for co-op now being possible anywhere, the new mod turns on multiplayer scaling for all enemies instead of just bosses. The change is meant to balance the fact that exploring the game with allies is significantly easier, since most of its non-arena environments weren’t designed with cooperative play in mind. That notwithstanding, anyone wanting to steamroll the game with some friends can still do so by disabling this setting in the ds1sc_settings.ini configuration file located in the mod’s installation folder. The mod also introduces the ability to completely disable invasions, thus turning Dark Souls Remastered into a pure PvE experience.

One limitation to keep in mind is that the add-on uses different save files from the base game, making co-op saves non-transferable to the vanilla game. It also doesn’t connect to FromSoftware’s servers, but instead relies on a peer-to-peer system to accomplish whatever data packet sharing is necessary for multiplayer to work. As a result, the new Dark Souls Remastered seamless co-op mod is completely safe to use, in the sense that it cannot result in any unexpected bans. Yui has yet to share what idea they intend to tackle next now that this project has been wrapped up.
