Popular Co-op Horror Game REPO Teases Major Features in First Update

Summary

  • REPO’s first major update will include matchmaking, new expressions, and an intriguing Overcharge mechanic.
  • Future collaborations with other franchises are being considered, teasing exciting crossovers down the road.

The online co-op survival horror REPO has only been in early access for a few months, but developer Semiwork has already revealed a platter of new features coming to the game within its first major update. Developed by the Swedish studio that produced Lethal Company, REPO, which stands for The Retrieve, Extract and Profit Operation, was developed on the Exit Games’ platform Photon Engine and uses comedic, physics-based interactions to give the project its unique flair.

In REPO, players are tasked with locating valuable objects within procedurally-generated layouts, and these items must be handled delicately to avoid breakages and brought to extraction points. REPO joins some of the best horror games that encourage teamwork, as players will have to work together to navigate the creepy environments, but also to prevent loot from being damaged.

REPO Devs Tease Horror Game’s First Major Update

Several mods have been created to improve REPO’s gameplay, including Post Level Summary, which provides end-of-level stats to live and learn, and the XH Damage Show Enemy Health Bar mod that gives players a health bar to fight monsters. While Semiwork champions these add-ons to take the horror’s gameplay experience to new heights, the developer asks modders to optimize the amount of server traffic they send to “avoid any skyrocketing server costs.”

In addition to the abundance of details gathered from the update tease, Semiwork has also touched on the possibility of REPO’s future collaborations with other franchises. Despite the dev team’s current busy slate, future collaborations have been considered, and Semiwork is currently “keeping an eye on” the possibility of crossovers further down the road.
