The first GTA 6 trailer was originally planned to premiere on December 5, at 9am ET. However, after the video leaked online, Rockstar ended up releasing it around 16 hours early. Rumor: Major Publishers Ready to Delay Games Because of GTA 6
A recent report claims that some major publishers are willing to push their upcoming game releases to avert the possibility of launching around GTA 6.
The trailer hit another major milestone on April 19, when it surpassed 250 million views. For reference, the first GTA 6 trailer had 200 million views back in mid-July 2024, so it has managed to accumulate another 50 million views over the following nine months. Around the same time that it broke the 250-million-view threshold, the video also surpassed 1 million comments on YouTube.

For added context, the GTA 6 trailer currently has more than twice the number of views as Rockstar’s second most-viewed YouTube video—the GTA 5 reveal. In fact, the first GTA 6 trailer outpaces not just GTA 5‘s reveal, but also the combined views of Rockstar’s next four most-watched YouTube videos by roughly 15 million.
This viewership milestone was reached shortly after the GTA 6 reveal trailer marked its 500-day anniversary. While the follow-up trailer is still nowhere to be seen, it’s ostensibly not too far away at this point, at least assuming that the game itself is still on course to hit the market in late 2025. Rockstar is still expected to share an extensive gameplay trailer before releasing its much-anticipated title.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the long period of radio silence following the GTA 6 reveal trailer during a recent Bloomberg interview, explaining that the publisher wants to maintain both “anticipation” and “excitement,” which is why it’s holding off on sharing more about the game until close to release. As previously announced, GTA 6 will initially launch exclusively on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While historical precedent suggests a PC port is inevitable, it has yet to be officially confirmed. Many major publishers are anticipating the GTA 6 release date with the same intensity as fans, as few are willing to launch their big-budget titles anywhere near Rockstar’s upcoming game. For the time being, the only thing that seems certain is that GTA 6 will launch at least a few weeks after September 23, which is when Take-Two is scheduled to release Borderlands 4.
