‘Make Sure I Don’t Leak Anything’ Phil Spencer Teases More Unannounced Xbox Games for 2025

Summary

  • Xbox may have more unannounced games planned for release before 2025, hinted by Phil Spencer’s recent comments.
  • Game Pass has seen major releases like Avowed and South of Midnight, with more reveals potentially on the way.
  • Spencer also discussed future IP adaptations and Microsoft’s relationship with Nintendo ahead of the Switch 2’s launch.

Xbox appears to still have some major unannounced games planned for release before the end of 2025, if recent comments from Phil Spencer are to be believed. The CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Spencer seems to be tiptoeing around leaking anything specific related to Xbox, but his cautiousness could be a good sign that even more unannounced games are coming to Xbox consoles in the near future.

Xbox, and more specifically its subscription-based Game Pass service, has been very active of late, bringing highly anticipated games to subscribers on their launch date. Starting in mid-February with day-one Game Pass game Avowed, three other major releases have appeared on Game Pass at launch since then, and Xbox may have even more reveals coming soon.

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Reveals His Favorite Game of This Generation

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer names one of the most decorated titles in recent years as his pick for the best game of this generation.

In a recently published interview with Variety, Spencer was asked what upcoming games he is most excited to see released before the year reaches its end. His initial response was to walk backwards and lavish praise on Avowed, congratulating the development team at Obsidian for the action-RPG’s warranted success. After offering similar praise for fellow day-one Game Pass game South of Midnight, which had not been released at the time the interview was conducted, along with upcoming games Doom: The Dark Ages and the Obsidian-developed The Outer Worlds 2, Spencer seemed to catch himself in the moment and showed trepidation at revealing much more. “There’s more stuff, some stuff that’s unannounced and I’m walking in my head to make sure I don’t leak anything,” he told the interviewer, potentially implying that more 2025 release date announcements are on the way for Xbox.

Phil Spencer Nearly Leaks Unannounced Xbox Games

The date of the interview was not fully disclosed, but it was conducted prior to the theatrical release of A Minecraft Movie on April 4. With the interview’s main focus on that film, Spencer also shed some light on Microsoft’s future role in bringing video game IPs to movie theaters and television streams. While he seems excited to see live-action adaptations like Fallout finding success, he also noted that the video game industry is successful all on its own, so anyone wanting to adapt a Microsoft Gaming IP for a different format needs to understand the product and work with the team responsible for its creation. With that said, he’s also not anticipating Microsoft taking the lead in making film or TV adaptations a reality.

Aside from Xbox itself, Spencer also touched on the friendly business relationship between Microsoft and Nintendo. In light of the recent Switch 2 Direct reveals, he reinforced his position on working with Nintendo to reach players who don’t use Xbox consoles or PCs. Spencer is not nervous about competition with the Switch 2, and while he still stopped short of revealing any specific in-progress projects between the two companies, he seemingly implied that deals are being made behind the scenes, responding, “I believe in the plans that we have.”
