Mortal Kombat Petition is Starting to Blow Up

Summary
- Fans are petitioning for a remaster of Mortal Kombat 9.
- The 2011 Mortal Kombat game is only playable on outdated hardware.
- It’s unclear if it or any other classic Mortal Kombat games will get remastered any time soon.
Mortal Kombat fans have started a petition asking for a remaster of the 2011 game, known simply as Mortal Kombat or Mortal Kombat 9. Mortal Kombat has consistently been one of the industry’s premiere fighting game franchises since the very first game was released in 1992. In recent years, fans have been able to enjoy new Mortal Kombat games like Mortal Kombat 1 as well as the new Mortal Kombat movie series.
The recent Mortal Kombat games have earned mostly positive reviews and are plenty popular, but there are certainly those that yearn to play the older Mortal Kombat games instead. Unfortunately, there aren’t many options when it comes to playing classic Mortal Kombat games on modern consoles, which has fueled a new petition that is already nearing 1,000 signatures at the time of this writing.

An individual named Zach has taken to Change.org to start a petition asking for a remaster of the 2011 Mortal Kombat game that was originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before making its way to PC and PlayStation Vita. The petition notes that it’s “almost impossible” to play the 2011 Mortal Kombat since it’s only available for outdated hardware and the Steam version was delisted. The petition asks Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios to remaster the 2011 Mortal Kombat for modern platforms with improved visuals and restored online features.
Mortal Kombat 9 Petition is Gaining Traction
It seems there are many Mortal Kombat fans that would be interested in the 2011 Mortal Kombat making a comeback. Over 700 signatures have been collected at the time of this writing, with new Mortal Kombat fans throwing their support behind the idea regularly. Fans shouldn’t hold their breath that the petition will actually lead to anything – or even get a response from anyone official – but it could at least let it be known that there is interest in the 2011 Mortal Kombat game getting remastered for modern platforms.
The jury is still out on whether the 2011 Mortal Kombat will ever get remastered, but there is some hope for other classic MK games to get remastered. In fact, a couple of years ago, franchise creator Ed Boon was gauging interest in a potential remaster of the spin-off game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Nothing concrete has materialized from that poll yet, but considering the popularity of Mortal Kombat, it seems like a waste to not bring its games to modern systems.
