Schedule 1 Has Good News for Steam Deck Users

Summary

  • Schedule 1 developer confirms Steam Deck support is in the works.
  • The game’s solo developer has revealed he intends to work on the game’s optimization in future updates.
  • A new update for Schedule 1 was released on April 10 with new content, gameplay tweaks, bug fixes, and more.

Schedule 1 developer TVGS has confirmed that it is working on getting the game Steam Deck verified with new optimization improvements. Currently, Schedule 1 is marked as “playable” on the Steam Deck, but has not been officially verified by Valve. However, a new update from the solo developer has revealed plans to further optimize the smash hit title specifically for Valve’s handheld device.

Developer TVGS has created an unexpected smash hit with its new crime simulation title, quickly becoming one of the most-played games on Steam. Schedule 1 may have won over the hearts of players, achieving an “overwhelmingly positive” review score on Steam, but it hasn’t been without issue. Shortly after the game’s early access launch, Drug Deal Simulator publisher Movie Games S.A. revealed that it was investigating Schedule 1 for potential copyright infringement as the company believes TVGS may have used elements from Drug Deal Simulator, such as plot, mechanics, and user interface. While the investigation is ongoing, that hasn’t stopped the solo developer from releasing new content updates.

Schedule 1 Developer Working on Steam Deck Verification

On April 10, TVGS launched a brand-new update for Schedule 1. The latest patch included plenty of new content for the hit indie game, including new decorations, the ability to sell items at the Pawn Shop, and much more. Toward the end of the v0.3.4 patch notes, the developer revealed that he was working on improving the game’s optimization and confirmed that he would “like to get Steam Deck officially supported.” While it’s unclear how long this may take, the developer said that they would like Schedule 1 to be Steam Deck verified as soon as possible. Currently, the game is marked as “playable” on Valve’s handheld device, but there are numerous text and controller-related issues preventing it from being verified.

Although Schedule 1 isn’t currently one of the many indie games with Steam Deck verification, many players do still play the title on the device with outstanding performance. As Schedule 1 is not a very graphically intensive title, the lower specs of the Steam Deck appear to run it anywhere between 40 and 60 frames per second with the correct settings. However, as Schedule 1 does not have official controller support, players are currently having to customize the controller layout via Steam Deck’s built-in configuration settings. While TVGS has revealed it plans to improve Schedule 1‘s optimization, which will hopefully improve Steam Deck performance, it’s unclear if official controller support will also be added in a future update.

Despite being created by a single developer, Schedule 1 has been a massive hit on Steam since its early access launch on March 24. Just days after the game was released, it far exceeded expectations with over 130,000 concurrent players. Then, on April 6, Schedule 1 continued to soar in popularity with over 459,000 concurrent players, making it one of the most-played games on Steam. Fans continue to praise the title, with over 92,000 reviews as of writing, Schedule 1 boasts an impressive “overwhelmingly positive” score on the platform.
